River mile ~40.06 — Published guide mile 40.06 (river left)
Mapped at 44.7314, -114.9412.
At about mile 40.06 on river left, a short trail leads to a rock outcrop with numerous Native American pictographs; pit-house remains are reported on a lower bench nearby. The site is part of the Middle Fork corridor’s documented archaeological landscape of pictographs, rockshelters, and winter villages associated with Tukudeka (Sheepeater) and other Indigenous use. Do not touch the paintings—skin oils damage the pigments—and leave artifacts in place under federal antiquities protections.
