Joe Bump Cabin sits on river left at about USFS mile 11.8, just below Powerhouse Rapids and across from Soldier Creek. Joe Bump was a Cascade, Idaho, prospector and packer; river histories say he lost toes to frostbite in a Bear Valley snowstorm, developed blood poisoning, and left the Middle Fork. USFS cultural survey recorded the site (10-VY-137); placering scars and a Depression-era cabin/diversion ditch remain key interpretive features for boaters who walk the short trail upstream from Joe Bump Camp.
