Whitie (also Whitey/Whitie) Cox Camp on river right near mile 46.8 is named for a WWII Army veteran who placer-mined here and died in a rockfall in 1954; his body was found weeks later and he was buried where he lived and worked. A military headstone and a pile of sun-bleached animal bones mark the grave. The upper bench is closed to camping because of Native American structure remnants; a small hot spring is on the bench above.
